REVIEW: The Big Lebowski (Movie)

The Big Lebowski
Directed/Written By: Joel and Ethan Coen
Stars: Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore

"I'm the Dude, man."

The Big Lebowski may have come out a little over 15 years ago, but it was only yesterday that a friend encouraged me to watch it for the first time.

Previous to this, I've had a few acquaintances refer to me as "the Big Lebowski" in certain situations. Of course I had heard of the movie, but I was clueless as to why they deemed me worthy of the nickname. After seeing the movie, I realize the accuracy of their name-calling. Nonchalant, carefree, and the worst luck imaginable. Not to mention the hippie-esque wardrobe...sounds pretty close to my personality.

The Big Lebowski focuses on "Jeff Lebowski" more commonly called "the Dude". A laid back, unemployed, bowling-loving hippie. He is mistaken for a rich man under the same name of Lebowski. This leads to a string of ridiculous events that have him following the rich Lebowski's request to bring back his kidnapped wife. The Dude's two friends and bowling partner, Donny - an airhead at best, and Martin - an angry Vietnam vet - accompany him along the way.

The cast, characters, and iconic quotes are what really make this move the cult classic that it's become. Jeff Bridges stars as "the Dude", and the best person I could've possibly imagined to do so. Julianne Moor, John Goodman, and Steve Buscemi are just a few of the supporting characters alongside the Dude. Aside from the flawless cast, the quotes alone deem the movie endlessly re-watchable (in my opinion). The Dude is painfully blase about almost every situation he comes into contact with, delivering a plentiful amount of witty comebacks along the way for us to quote back.

In short, this film is a must see for comedy fans. The funniest movie I've seen this year, by far, and definitely in the top 10 for my all time funniest.

CHARACTERS: 5 of 5
STORY: 5 of 5
GRAPHICS: 5 of 5
OVERALL: 5 stars all the way. Take away the perfect characters/cast/quotes and the plot would be bland, but the Coen brothers blended it flawlessly. Will definitely be re-watching frequently.

REVIEW: Beauty and the Beast 3D

I am a huge fan of this classic Disney movie. My absolute favorite prince and princess. I can relate to Belle so well! Big dreams, head in the books....that's me. Anyways, I have a strong distaste for 3D but this is one movie I couldn't pass up. Somehow I convinced my boyfriend and three of our guy friends to tag along with me to see this film. (Alcohol after the movie probably persuaded them.)

Along with the movie ticket purchase, I received a free Commemorative Lithograph postcard!! I got THREE because I was so excited the girl gave me two more. I will do a giveaway for two of them later on! (More on that in another post).

Once we got inside the movie, I was so excited I could barely sit still. The songs from the movie were playing in my head, taunting me. However, once the previews started my anxiety was subdued. There are SO MANY good movies coming out this year!! The Lorax, Star Wars 3D, a Miyazaki film, etc!

Finally, the movie started. Or, I should say, the Tangled Short that I've been so stoked to see. It was hilarious! I wish they would make a Tangled 2, even if it did end up being straight to DVD, like most Disney part 2 movies.

After the short ended, Beauty and the Beast began. The updated graphics were so great, I noticed things that I've never noticed before on the gritty VHS that I own. I won't sit here and review the actual movie since most every knows it and/or has seen it. However, I will say that the 3D itself was not that great! There were not that many things that were "3D-ified". Meaning...mostly everything was flatscreen. So basically all they did was updated the graphics. Which is good! But I wouldn't have paid $12USD per ticket if I had known that.

Overall, it was worth it for the excitement level, learning of new good movies coming out, and of course the Tangled short!

MOVIE: 5 of 5 stars!
3D EFFECTS: 2 of 5 stars
GRAPHICS: 4 of 5 stars
OVERALL: 3.5 of 5 stars - meaning, wait until it comes to DVD so you can save money!
